Cross Catholic Outreach hosts Village of Hope Dinner event, raises $273,000 to support Haiti Housing Project

Lafayette, LA (June 26, 2012) — Cross Catholic Outreach, a Catholic relief and development organization based in South Florida, partnered with Father Glenn Meaux of Kobonal Haiti Mission to host the “Village of Hope Dinner” in Lafayette, Louisiana on May 30, 2012.  The event, held at The City Club, raised $273,000, with proceeds going toward the Kobonal Haiti Mission’s housing project, an effort to build sturdy concrete houses for Haitians currently living in small, makeshift shanties.

“When I arrived in Kobonal, it was known as ‘the darkest corner of the Diocese of Hinche’.  At that time, we found families enslaved by poverty, with little means to escape,” Fr. Meaux said.

To help the poor, Fr. Meaux established the Kobonal Haiti Mission in 1989. Cross Catholic Outreach partnered with him in 2004 and has been supporting the mission since.  This year, using funds raised through the dinner, the charity will be assisting more than 260 people through the Mission’s housing project.

In addition to the public support it received, the Village of Hope Dinner also benefitted from sponsorships provided by Gulf Coast Bank, Quoyeser Inc., Mr. & Mrs. Richard McElligott, Mr. Paul C. LeBleu, Mr. George Stokes, Mr. & Mrs. Sullivan, Edmond Council 10293 Grand Knight Derwin D., Golden Triangle Family Care Center, Andry Law Group, Mr. & Mrs. Jerry Ritter, Holy Cross Church, Mr. & Mrs. Andre Miller, La-Z-Boy Furniture Galleries, Louisiana Capital/Prime Title, Victory Addiction Recovery Center, Schumacher Group, The Picard Group, Acadian Companies, Resource Environmental Solutions, Mr. & Mrs. Tom LeBlanc, Doerle Food Services and Mr. & Mrs. Tom Butcher.
